Important Things That Should Be Known About Mole Removal Surgery

Several different reasons can be held responsible for getting a mole removal done. Medical reason and cosmetic reason are the two common ones. Regardless of the reason due to which it is being done, one must be aware of all the available options for removal. One should also get the mole checked before removing it. This is simply due to the fact that some of the moles have a potential to cause melanoma, which is a form of skin cancer. When normal moles are continuously exposed to ultraviolet rays they tend to become cancerous.

A constant check thus needs to be kept on the mole to detect any kind of abnormalities as soon as possible. The first abnormality that can be seen for is asymmetry. The moles which are not malignant are often symmetric. Thus if one observes any kind of asymmetry in their moles then there is a possibility of the mole being cancerous. The abnormal moles normally do not have regular borders like the normal moles.

Generally normal moles are of one specific color, either black or brown. If one observes their moles to have a mix of colors, then it is not considered to be normal. Size is yet another factor that describes the nature of the mole. This is because normal moles do not start growing large all of a sudden. The moles having a presence of lump like structures on its surface is also not a normal one.

The removal of a mole on account of medical reasons is usually done surgically. A doctor ought to be consulted in the event of seeing any of the before mentioned abnormalities. A doctor is the best person to recommend the most effective treatment option based on the size and the location of the mole.

Plenty of methods are present under the surgical option. Excision of the mole can be considered to be one of them. It is usually done with the help of a scalpel. The area first needs to be cleaned and the procedure is then carried out. Based on the size of the mole, the requirement of an anesthesia is decided. Once the mole is removed by this procedure, stitches then need to be applied to the area. The stitches are usually dissolved and there is no need to get them removed.

Cauterization is another commonly used method. This method involves the use of a cautery tool to burn off the mole. The very big advantage of this method over the above one is that stitches are not required. One of the other most popular methods included in this category is the removal of a mole by laser treatment. Having said that, this method cannot be used to remove moles that are large in size. The reason behind this being that the laser beam does not have the ability to go very deep into the skin.

One of the biggest disadvantages of the surgical methods is that it is very costly. However when it comes to removing the moles due to medical reasons, this is the only method that needs to be opted for.
