Three Tips to Energize During Your Afternoon Slump
You start your morning fresh and ready to go, mug of coffee in hand and ready to tackle the new day. You tear through your morning routines, and then have lunch. Suddenly, somehow, the day grinds to a halt, and your eyelids are drooping and you're feeling as heavy as a stone, lethargic and dull, and all you want to do is rest your head on your desk and nap for half an hour. What happened? Where did this afternoon slump come from, and how did it ambush you so hard? This is unfortunately very common for most people, and in today's article we're going to give you three tips to avoid this slump, and better yet, reverse it. So read on to learn how you can stay energized throughout your day, improving your productivity levels and style!
The first trick is to not get over stimulated in the morning. If you drink three mugs of coffee between eight and midday, you will be in line for a huge crash when that caffeine finally gets processed by your system. In the same manner, your body will crash if you have a high sugar lunch, or eat far too much. The more you stimulate your body during the morning, the heavier and harder the crash will be in the afternoon. So though it may seem hard at first, try to wean yourself of all those stimulants. It may prove challenging in the short term, but the long term benefits will prove huge.
Second, be sure to have breakfast and exercise in the morning. Having breakfast will stimulate your metabolism, so that you can begin burning calories for energy and not be starving by lunch time, prompting you to feast and then crash. Exercising will generate plenty of endorphins, making coffee less necessary and helping you say on an even keel throughout. Both of these can make your day seem more level, balanced and healthy, and will do wonders for preventing that afternoon crash.
Finally, just as you are beginning to crash, stand up and do some stretches. If you can, you should try to step outside for five minutes and get some sunlight on your face, as natural light is a great stimulant and will encourage your body to rev itself up and keep going. At the very least do a few stretches, as this will get your blood circulating.
