Balloon Sinuplasty- A Perfect Solution to Chronic Sinus Problems

Balloon sinuplasty is elevating news for patients suffering from chronic sinus problems. This is an FDA approved technique which is found to be less invasive as compared to other traditional methods. The loss of blood is very negligible since there is less tissue removal. Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses due to infection, allergy or autoimmune problems. The sinus openings are severely blocked and the normal mucus drainage can not occur. Serious headaches, eyesores, nausea, vomiting, breathlessness and unusual nasal discharge are some of the main symptoms of this infection. If the treatment of this infection is not done properly then it may persist as chronic sinusitis.

Baloon sinuplasty involves the use of a microscopic endoscope along with a catheter based system to access the sinuses. It is performed under general or local anesthesia to prevent any discomfort to the patient. A microscopic endoscope is first introduced in the nasal passage to visualize the exact location. Then a wire catheter fitted with a tiny balloon is inserted through the nostril. On reaching the blocked site, the balloon is inflated for a short duration. This opens the blockage and also pushes the bone lining the opening which soon reforms into a favorable gap. After clearing the blockage, the balloon is deflated and removed. An irrigation catheter is used to flush out the mucus or pus from the sinus. If the patient has severely inflamed sinuses or occurrence of polyps then the treatment is combined with septoplasty or partial turbinate reduction.

According to clinical studies, sinuplasty has been proved as a permanent and safe method in relieving sinusitis infection. Unlike other traditional methods, soft and flexible devices are used in sinuplasty process which causes less distress to the tissues. Though the recovery time varies from patient to patient, yet a sinuplasty patient tends to improve faster.

If you have recurrent sinus trouble, you should consult balloon sinuplasty doctors for better results. The expertise of the doctor must be confirmed before taking the treatment to avert any undesirable outcomes. Indeed, sinuplasty is a cost effective method with relatively fewer risks than other traditional practices.
