How Fat Loss Works: The Science

Once you were in great shape. You remember the day. You had a flat tummy, you were full of energy, maybe you were even on a sports team or two. You never had the best dietary practices, but you weren't a slob, and your health was stable enough that you could basically ignore it. Well, the years have gone by and you've gotten busier, working hard and playing hard, taking care of the family and well, there just hasn't been enough time for those morning jogs. What are you supposed to do, not sleep? Then you wake up one day, and man, suddenly you realize that a belly has crept up on you. You've been mugged, and now your body is officially over weight. How did that happen? What are you supposed to do? Well, in today's article we're going to look at the fundamentals of fat loss, and help you get in the best shape of your life in a healthy and responsible manner.

Now, let's get something out of the way and be honest. The best way to lose weight is to eat less than you need for maintenance and to exercise so that you lose more fat than lean body mass. How you do that is basically details; what matters is that you get started and don't stop. It really is that simple. It doesn't matter if you swim, lift weights, jog, cycle, play tennis, or simply walk for an hour a day. What you do is irrelevant. What matters is that you do something, and stick with it. The same goes with your diet. It doesn't really matter which one you pick as long as you stick with it. So if you're agonizing over all your choices and wasting day after day looking for the perfect answer, then stop. Get started with something that's fun, and stick to it, and you'll lose weight. It's really that easy.

Now, what about diet? There are a million billion different kinds of diets out there that people swear are the only and final solution to weight loss. Should you waste time trying to figure it out? No. As long as you don't eat as many calories as you need to maintain your weight, you will drop the pounds. The only caveat here is that you need to eat plenty of protein so that you lose more fat than you do lean body weight.
