Two Ways to Relax Quickly

The world is a stressful place. All you have to do is open the newspaper and you will be greeted by endless stories of trouble and mayhem. Whether its government dysfunction, psycho killers chopping up dozens of victims, stories of international way, genocide and mass migrations, theories as to the end of the world or climate change, the destruction of the oceans and the artic, all we have to do is look outside our window to immediately become stressed and worried. What can we do when this happens/ In today's article we're going to take a look at a couple of easy tips that can help you blow away the stress and get through your day no matter the causes of your woes and troubles. So read on, and prepare to take care of your stress!

First, why is it important to control your stress levels? Too many people go through life blowing up and feeling enraged, and that has been shown to have a direct effect on their health. High levels of stress can result in a plethora of problems, from raised blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, to the lowering of your immune system, inability to sleep, heart palpitations, panic attacks, digestion problems and worse. That's why it is essential to learn to keep your woes in check, and to never allow your stress to run your life.

The first tip can be done in under a minute. It's been shown that looking up can stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers your blood pressure and slows the pace of your breathing. As such, to derive benefit from these truths, what you should do is sit or lie down comfortably, and then look up at the ceiling for about sixty seconds, focusing on your breathing and making it as smooth and rhythmic as you can. Slow, careful counting to sixty will also give you something else to focus on, and allow your mind to settle and your wound up nerves to calm down.

The second tactic is great if you are feeling so wound up, anxious or upset that looking up for sixty seconds isn't going to help you. Instead, what you need to do is channel that energy out onto a page by writing down all the things that are upsetting you. Don't try to problem solve, explain or blame, just write down a list of all the elements in your life that are driving you crazy and leave them for tomorrow to deal with.
