2 Ways To Calm Down Fast
It's a stressful world out there. Every day we receive news of greater problems and tragedies that seem to be facing us both as a species and as individuals, problems that seem to only grow and never depart. Whether it's a quick browse through the newspaper that gives us the latest details of the wars in the Middle East and the horrors being faced there or the latest details of climate change and how our planet is being wrecked, it's easy to get stressed out. Even more pressing can be problems at work, dealing with unemployment, trying to smooth over relationship issues or any other of a host of personal problems that can derail us. That is when coping techniques are key, and we must engage in self-control to remain focused. In today's article we're going to take a look at a couple of such techniques, and help you apply them in your own life to remain calm.
First, a quick question: why is it important to handle our stress? To put it simple, high levels of stress have been linked to a large number of physical ailments that can directly impact your quality of life and reduce your pleasure in daily activities. From high blood pressure to cardiovascular disease to digestive problems, lowered immune systems, panic attacks and worse, high stress levels can be a killer. That is why it is essential that we learn to remain on top of our stress levels and not allow them to control our lives.
One of the first and best ways to control your levels of stress is to find a calm place to sit down and to focus on our breathing. The way to do this is to focus on the sound our breath makes in the back of our throat as we breathe in and out, trying to breathe in long, slow breaths. Breathe in through your nose, and out through your nose, and allow this sound to be a place where you focus and think. Doing so will remove sources of stress and help you remain calm.
Another way to control your stress is to engage in guided imagery techniques. For example, sit somewhere quiet and calm and close your eyes and imagine that you are a cloud, floating along. Picture the cloud perfectly, and then invite your senses to pick up on what they would notice.
