If you go to any gym you will see scores of men lifting heavy pieces of metal over and over again, grimacing and grunting and killing themselves to lift ever more weights. Why? Well, in today's article we are going to take a look at the hard science behind muscle growth, and tell you what you can expect to achieve if you do everything right.
Now, nobody wants to be told to quit mooning around and stop wondering about the future, but there is a very real danger in putting all your energy into daydreaming about how big you might become when the truth is that very few people realize their absolute genetic potential. Instead, you would be much better served simply working very hard right now and fighting to eat right. However, we'll give you general guidelines so that you can still know what is possible, and once you have that goal in mind, you should fight to forget about it and get down to work today as opposed to dreaming about tomorrow.
When attempting to determine your muscle max, we need to really understand the difference between lean body mass and your general weight. It's no use to just measure yourself, as your general weight will include the pounds of fat that you are carrying around on your body. Instead you must focus on your lean body mass which is a better indication of muscle mass and is limited by your genetics. When figuring that out, you need to realize that your max is determined by your height. Thus somebody that is five foot six will be able to reach about 170lbs of lean body mass, while somebody who is five foot eight will be able to hit 178lbs. A six foot tall guy will be able to get about 185lbs of lean body mass, but remember to add fat when figuring out your total weight.
