A friend recently asked me, "Does drinking water speed up metabolism?" She has a hard time maintaining her weight, but she's not crazy about drinking plain H20. She prefers other beverages. If you are in a similar situation, here's some information.

Many beverages are loaded with calories. Even fruit juices contain sugars that can cause spikes in blood sugar levels. If the cells of your body cannot use the sugar right away, it will be converted into fat.

What about diet drinks? Researchers recently found that people who drink diet sodas on a regular basis weigh more than those who do not. There are a couple of reasons why.

Those things prove it is the best thing to drink for weight loss or maintenance, but does drinking water speed up metabolism? Research suggests that the answer is "yes", but there are a few other things you should know.

Studies have shown that people who drink an eight ounce glass, a half hour before eating consume fewer calories. This effect cannot be due to a feeling of fullness. Something else must be happening to decrease the appetite after that length of time.

It has also been shown that having a glass first thing in the morning seems to jump start the body's fat-burning capabilities. Those results relate specifically to my friend's question; does drinking water speed up metabolism.

 But, there is still another important piece of information having to do with purity.

If chemical contaminants are present, the effects will be minimized if not totally negated. For example, the chemical chlorine is actually dehydrating.

Bottled-water brands contain chemicals due to the plastic containers. Those chemicals are known to contribute to metabolic disorders.

So, if you need to lose weight, you should be drinking more pure H20. The best way to get that is to install a water purifier in your home.
