3 Common Issues That Women Can Face at Any Age

Women don't generally like to talk about issues or problems "down there", but having complications related to your bladder and uterus are actually quite common. In fact, no matter how old you are, you can fall victim to these 3 common issues.

1.Menorrhagia It may sound intimidating, but menorrhagia is just a fancy way of saying that you have problems with your period. If you have heavy menstruation, very long periods, or bleeding in between periods, they you suffer from menorrhagia. When you look at it like that, it's easy to see why menorrhagia is such a common problem! Luckily, you don't have to live with any of these problems.

A good doctor will help you figure out what's causing your menorrhagia, then tell you how it can be fixed. Generally, the treatments vary depending on what your specific issue is, so if you have heavy menstruation, the treatment could be different than if you have bleeding in between periods. However, menorrhagia isn't just an inconvenience. It can be a symptom of something more serious, so if your periods don't seem normal, talk to an expert!

2.Uterine prolapse Again, this is a term that sounds scary, but it's actually a very common problem. With a uterine prolapse, your uterus either slides or sags away from its normal position. You may have a uterine prolapse if you suffer from regular bladder infections, if you have pain (either during intercourse or all of the time), or you have problems urinating - either going to frequently, or not enough.

A uterine prolapse can be brought on by giving birth several times. It can also be caused by age. As you get older, your body starts to produce less estrogen. Unfortunately, that estrogen is responsible for keeping your vaginal muscles strong. If your muscles get weak, they may no longer be able to support your uterus. The result?Gravity takes over, and your uterus slides out of place.

3.Pelvic organ prolapse Your uterus isn't the only organ that can slide out of place. If you suffer from a pelvic organ prolapse, it means that either your bladder or your rectum has started to sag. In either event, the organ will put extra stress and strain on your vaginal walls. In some cases, you can even see a bulge where everything has shifted. Just like a uterine prolapse, a pelvic organ prolapse is often caused by giving birth or getting older. If left untreated, pelvic organ prolapse can lead to serious problems - including incontinence. Luckily, there are several treatment options that can get you back to normal.

Labia Surgery, Beyond the Cosmetic

Sometimes found in children, but most typically observed in older adults, rectal prolapse is a serious condition that very often requires surgery to ameliorate. Surgery performs the task of repairing an anus-protruding rectum.

The rectum is the end of the colon; when it projects beyond the anus, it can occur in the form of a partial protrusion, that is, where only the mucosa is present outside the opening, or in a complete-protrusion form, in which case the entirety of the rectum wall can be seen beyond the anus opening. Needless to say, such a medical condition can have a significant and grave impact on a person's quality of life. A prolapse is not the only reason for anatomical modifications.

Labiaplasty encompasses related surgical procedures. Although these are more often than not deemed to be of a cosmetic nature exclusively, the actual applications of the science prove otherwise. Labiaplasty refers to a variety of anatomical modifications introduced surgically to the labia minora and labia majora of women and transgendered individuals.

Because of the medical advancements in this area, a woman can elect her option of procedure at a doctor's office and request a reversal of the female genital mutilation she underwent by compulsion. The science also provides a means for the surgical correction of congenital anomalies of the vagina and vulva. Yet, case studies and interviews involving pre- and post-surgery women intimate that they are, in fact, seeking out labia surgery for cosmetic purposes.

Labia surgery can serve to alleviate sexual self-consciousness that arises from anatomical formations present at birth or introduced later on -- as in the case of female genital mutilation. Through a reduction labiaplasty, part of a patient's labia majora or minora is amputated; immediately following amputation, the remaining labia portions' newly created edges is sewn over. In another variety of the procedure, wedge segments of labia are detached through cutting and the remaining attached portions are rejoined, or reapproximated, through surgery. This involves altering epithelial and smooth muscle cells. Still another procedure conducted for the purpose of creating a more refined appearance of female genitalia is vulvar lipoplatsy; through it, excess or undesired fat from the mons pubis is eliminated.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery – 3 Ways It Can Help You

It may be something you're embarrassed to talk about, but plenty of women have some sort of issue surrounding their vaginal area.  Whether you are in pain, having bladder control issues, or are simply insecure about how you look down there, vaginal rejuvenation surgery can help.
While it may sound drastic, most of these procedures can be done in about an hour, and recovery time usually takes about a week or so.

So, what can vaginal rejuvenation surgery do for you?

1.It can eliminate heavy periods
Most women get uncomfortable during "that time of the month", but a condition called menorrhagia – also known as abnormally heavy periods or bleeding between periods – can make your discomfort much worse.  Menorrhagia is more than just uncomfortable, though.  If you don't get yours taken care of, you can wind up suffering from serious physical ailments – like anemia, abnormal blood clotting, and excessive fatigue.

During menorrhagia surgery, you have two options.  Your surgeon can either use extreme heat or cold to wear away at your uterine lining, so that any fibroid tumors or polyps are eliminated.

2.It can eliminate bladder leakage
It's something that no one wants to talk about – but bladder leakage is a big issue for lots of women.  Many times, those leaks are due to a condition called bladder prolapse.  If you suffer from bladder prolapse, the wall between your vagina and your bladder has gotten weak or damaged.  As a result, your bladder sinks back into your vagina – causing embarrassing leaks.

Many women who have bladder prolapse have given birth; however, it is also a problem that non-moms also face.  Luckily, a skilled surgeon can fix your bladder prolaspe by inserting a small sling into the area – which will help strengthen your bladder wall.

3.It can eliminate pain in your labia
Your labia – or, the lips that protect your vagina – can become downright painful if they are misshapen or too large.  The pain can be made worse by wearing tight clothing or bathing suits.  The best way to combat this pain is through labia reduction surgery – also known as a labiaplasty.  Just like the name suggests, a surgeon will make your labia smaller, make both lips the same size, or sculpt them into the proper shape.

Labia reduction surgery can also be done for cosmetic reasons.  If you are embarrassed by the size of your labia, this surgery can help.  As an added benefit, a labiaplasty can also help enhance sexual satisfaction.

The Conditions that Induce a Cystocele and the Treatments that Are Available

A cystocele is classified by three grades: mild-grade 1; severe-grade 2; and advanced-grade 3. Mild-grade 1 describes a bladder that has fallen only slightly into the vagina. A severe-grade 2 refers to a bladder that has dropped down to the vaginal opening. Finally, an advanced-grade 3 means that part of the bladder is located beyond the vaginal opening. Vaginal mesh support and connective tissue stitching are two options available to those exhibiting cystocele symptoms.Men and women have many different reasons for seeking out reconstructive surgery. For women, one known reason is the development of a cystocele. This medical condition is observed in women who experience a weakening of the wall that divides the bladder and vagina. The weakening results in the bladder re-arranging itself into the vagina, which causes difficulties for a woman's ability to empty her bladder. Other associated problems include a stretched urethra opening; this is the precursor for the urine leakage that some women experience when pressure is exerted upon their bladders by simple things like sneezing, laughing, or coughing.

Bladder prolapse, or any kind of pelvic organ prolapse, for that matter, is very serious. However, there are many treatments available that provide remedy, including surgery. The vaginal wall weakening that induced the prolapse is often an after-effect of menopause, childbirth, or of having undergone a hysterectomy. Incontinence and other discomforts are then likely to occur.

Clearly, heavy menstruation is not the only thing that can produce headaches and distress. The cystocele treatment a patient receives will depend on the severity of the circumstances. If it's not too grave, health providers often do with asking patients to refrain from physically straining activities, like the lifting of heavy objects. Advanced cases will require surgery to reposition the bladder. Full recovery from this procedure will take 4 to 6 weeks. By comparison, the recovery period for labia reduction surgery is estimated to be one week. During surgery for a cystocele, an incision is made in the vagina wall through which doctors tighten tissue layers and create both organ separation and stronger bladder support. For further details about the procedures and side effects, a medical consultation is in order.
