Experiencing the Signs of Menopause

Some women fear the idea of aging and everything that comes with it like wrinkles, eye bags and most especially menopause. Among women, the age when they experience menopause varies but it usually happens between the ages forty and sixty. Menopause is a condition where a woman stops getting her menstrual period. This is caused by a drop in the production of hormones by a woman as she ages, thus, causing her to no longer be fertile. Normally, the condition does not occur overnight but happens gradually over the course of time. As this happens, the woman will be experiencing different signs of menopause.

Even before a woman actually gets menopause, her body would be undergoing many transformations that would affect her not only physically but also mentally and emotionally. These changes, sometimes, make this period in any woman's life the most difficult - a time when they undergo what you call the midlife crisis.  Although some women experience only a few signs of menopause, there are those who feel the full blown effect.

Physical signs of menopause vary from one woman to another but generally it starts with changes in the monthly menstrual period. During the pre-menopause period, a woman may experience delays in the onset of menstruation or the period becomes shorter or longer than it usually is. Some women may feel headaches, night sweats, hot flashes or cramps. Others may feel that they have lesser vaginal secretions and have yeast infections or some may feel effects on their blood sugar.

Other than the physical signs, women in the pre-menopausal stage would experience psychological changes which are usually the ones that are most difficult to deal with. One sign would be mood changes or irritability. For a woman who has to deal with kids and work at the same time, having constant changes in disposition which she cannot do anything about because it is a part of the process would be extremely difficult to handle. Thus, women who cope well during this stage are admirable.

Some women experience more than temperament shifts. There are those who have the bad luck of going through depression in this period. When not handled well, this would affect not only their lives but also the lives of the people they love. As such, it is important that these women surround themselves with the support of their family and friends as they go through it. Still another sign of menopause is the loss of interest in love life. For a husband, this might not be easy to understand especially when the loss of interest involves the dampening of an otherwise healthy sexual relationship. Understanding by the husband of what his wife is going through is the key to overcoming this. The signs of menopause are obviously life changing for any woman but these signs should not be viewed on the basis of the difficulties that the woman experiences. In contrast, these should be viewed in the positive light.
