Hygiene is very important, but for those who experience excessive sweating and odor, good hygiene does not seem to be enough to maintain a clean appearance for very long. This is an embarrassing circumstance, and can even have repercussions to your health and well-being. However, it is not necessary to live with excessive sweating and odor; there are steps you can take to overcome this predicament.
How Often Do You Bathe?
If you suffer from excessive sweating and odor, you may need first to look at how often you are washing. If you are not showering once every day, it may be time to change up your routine. Our hormones change during puberty and during other times in our lives as well, and these changes may increase the amount that you sweat or even how your sweat smells.
Soap And Deodorant
Not all soaps and deodorants are created equal, and each one will react differently with your body chemistry than they do with someone else's. If you find that you are experiencing excessive sweating and odor, take a look at the soap you are using; it may be designed to be gentle, to smell nice, or even to fight acne; however, if it is not a deodorant soap, it may not be strong enough to fight and stave off odor. You may also want to consider a stronger deodorant, as well as reapplying it throughout the day.
Watch What You Eat
Eating lots of fatty foods, foods with heavy amounts of oils, or meat can lead to excessive sweating and odor. The fats in these foods are, at least in part, eliminated from the body through your pores. If you balance your diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, specifically green leafy vegetables, and drink lots of water, you will effectively dilute the fats and gain control over the situation.
Laundry Tips
Dirty clothes that sit for a long time before washing offer a prime location for the growth of bacteria that promote odor. The key is to wash clothes immediately after wearing them; if this is not possible, at least soak them with a grease cutting detergent. Do not use fabric softener, as odors will fuse themselves to the product, and the next time you wear the shirt in question, you will have even greater issues with odor. Excessive sweating and odor will build on itself if your clothes are not clean.
