As a Woman Should You Be Worried About Heart Disease?
We've all read and heard the statistics. The rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease have sky rocketed these past thirty years, with people everywhere packing on the pounds and developing all the problems that go with becoming over weight. This isn't the main problem, however, as heart disease can not only kill you, but also kill you far earlier than you should pass, with many women dying in their 60's instead of in their 80's or 90's. Further, many women lead lives hampered and constrained by heart disease, always gasping for breath, unable to climb stairs, and so on.
The danger here is that women tend to go undiagnosed for their conditions, such the disease is so readily associated with men. Typical symptoms that you should be on the watch-out for are chest pain, shoulder ache, jaw pain, nausea, vomiting, and shortness of pain. If these are chronic, then you definitely need to get yourself checked by a doctor.
The dangers of heart disease are made worse as you get older, if your family has a history of heart disease, if you smoke, have high blood pressure or blood cholesterol, are overweight, physically inactive or have diabetes. If you are in one or more of these categories then you need to be especially alert to chest pain and shortness of breath, as these can truly exacerbate your condition.
The best thing that you can do as a woman is to modify your patterns of behavior by exercising more and seeking to eat more nutritious meals that are in line with your caloric needs. Nothing will stave off the dangers of heart disease more than a healthy, active lifestyle, so if you believe that you are in danger the best thing you can do is see a doctor and change the way you live.
