Bloodborne Pathogens Can be Dangerous

Bloodborne pathogens pose a problem for many people who work around people who have bloodborne diseases.  It is important that great care is taken when working around blood and blood products.  There are several diseases which have no cure and can prove to be fatal.  Some of the diseases are Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV.  Unfortunately there are no cures for these diseases and thousands of people die because of them.  There are thousands of people who have one of these diseases and don't yet know they have it.  They don't know to be careful around other people.

Everyone should be careful around blood.  You don't know who bloodborne pathogens could be in that blood.  Healthcare professionals need to be extra careful.  They should always wear protective clothing when dealing with blood.  Some articles that should be used at all times are latex gloves, lab coats and eye protection.  There are other people who could be at risk as well as healthcare professionals.  Police officers and EMTs can also be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.  They often must deal with injuries where blood is present.

Even ordinary people can be thrust into a situation where blood is present.  Families where one of the members has a bloodborne disease need to be especially careful.  It the infected person happens to get cut or scratched and another family member helps them, they need to have latex gloves on hand.  Bloodborne diseases can spread through blood and it is always better to be safe when handling blood.

OSHA training is available online that will teach people like you how to handle blood properly.  You can learn what to do in case of a needle stick that could occur.  Remember to clean the area correctly to prevent the transfer of bloodborne pathogens.  In a hospital blood is drawn regularly and IVs are administered regularly.  Blood borne pathogens could be spread every time one of these things is done.  Great care should always be taken.

People who have bloodborne diseases should always be aware of how dangerous their blood is to other people.  Whenever possible they should take care of any injuries where there is blood on their own.  If someone is helping them make sure precautions are always taken.  Make the person who is helping you where latex gloves.  Preventing the spread of bloodborne pathogens is important.  No one wants to spread these diseases.  People who live in your home will sometimes become complacent when it comes to blood.  Make sure this doesn't happen.  Time does not heal diseases such as Hepatitis or HIV.

With the proper care and caution bloodborne pathogens can be avoided.  Don't become complacent.  A worker who is around blood should always be on their toes.  That means using great care when working around blood.  Dispose of needles and stick properly.  Make sure they are always put in the proper container.  Needle sticks can happen so make sure you know what has to be done in the case of a needle stick.  When you use the proper precautions you can avoid contamination.  Bloodborne pathogens are now a part of life.  Be careful and treat every patient carefully.
