The Worst and Best Thing You Can Do For a Hangover

I'm sure you've been there. The night's going great, you feel wonderful, the world is at your fingertips and you are having a blast with your friends. You're witty, hilarious, the life of the party, and the booze is really hitting the spot. Another drink, a second, maybe a round of shots with your friends, and then another beer. Before you know it you're passing out somewhere, and when you wake up the next morning you suddenly feel absolutely awful. What should you do? There is a range of options before you, but one is the worst thing you can do, and the other is the best. In today's article we take a look at them both, and make sure you can tell the difference between the two and pick up the right option.

Let's start with the worst thing you can do. Some people have developed the belief that the right approach to a hangover is to go right to a sauna and seek to ‘sweat it out'. This involves sitting in absolutely high heats for long periods of time, sweating profusely as they try to burn out the toxins. Does this work? Absolutely not. Odds are that your body is already dehydrated, that your body rhythms are off, and by entering a sauna you are actually making things infinitely worse. You will lose even more water, will potentially damage your blood vessels, and impact the blood flow patterns in your body in a way that you don't need to. Your heart rhythm can change, your blood pressure can drop, and you can find yourself not only dizzier, but in real danger of developing health risks.

So what's the right thing? If you can, the absolute best thing for you to do is to sleep the hang over off. People find that it is dangerously easy to fall asleep at the end of the night when drunk, which is why people tend to crash in all sorts of strange and public places (I'm sure you've seen amusing photographs of people passed out where they shouldn't be). However, as the alcohol wears off, the withdrawal can wake up your body, so that you open your eyes, groggy and out of it. Suddenly you are hung over and sleep deprived, feeling awful. That's why you should seek to sleep as much as you can, because your body's ability to heal itself is truly amazing.
