Two Easy Ways to Deal With Depression

There are plenty of reasons to be depressed these days. With the economy on the brink of a second recession plenty of folks are struggling to get work and pay their bills, leading to all kinds of stress and negativity. Further, the state of the nation is horribly divided, with Democrats and Republicans nearly sinking the government, while abroad revolutions and genocide seem to be the norm. Climate change promises an end to the world as we know it, while vast numbers of animals are threatened by extinction. There seems to be no respite from all this bad news, which is why it should be of no surprise that so many of us are becoming depressed. Rather than immediately load up on pills or seek a therapy however, today we're going to suggest a couple of easy, simple, and effective ways to deal with your depression.

The first option is the simplest, cheapest, and most useful thing you can do, but also the most difficult and hard to maintain. Many of us are depressed due to factors we can't control, yet we still blame ourselves for feeling down, believing that we are weak, unable to deal with reality, and thus increasing our depression. We need to start understanding that depression should be seen as a physical ailment, and can't be overcome by trying harder or simply trying to ignore it. Once you accept that you are depressed, and you stop blaming yourself, it becomes much easier to begin dealing with it in a healthy way.

The next step upon accepting that you are depressed and not taking the blame for it is to reach out for help and support from family and friends. Now, it's much easier to get support and understanding for something like a broken arm, and you may need to explain in greater detail to your family and friends why you are depressed and what it means, but reaching out is crucial to begin your road to recovery. Emotional support from your immediate network can help you feel better and more connected. Isolation only compounds the problems of depression, and you should always seek to share the weight of your woes with those who care about you and can help you make the right decisions.

Those are the fundamental and two most important steps to take if you believe you are dealing with depression.
