Face Lift: How Does It Work?

Wrinkles are generally embarrassing age marks. Although other people can live with them, majority of people still want their faces to look young despite physical maturity. A face lift procedure involves the removal of excess skin, as well as damaged portions of it. The skin is stretched taut over the facial structure, smoothing out wrinkles and other creases on the face. Depending on the extent of treatment, the facial tissues can be manipulated as well. For the most part, though, only the external skin layer of the patient's neck and head are adjusted.

 

Typically, incisions are created in hidden areas to prevent unsightly scars. Common incision spots include the front of the ear and the area immediately before the hairline. Once an opening is made, the skin is detached from the deep tissue to identify the excess skin and muscle to be removed.

Although the complete disappearance of scars may take months, there inconspicuous positions make them less of a hassle to deal with. Hair growth is also not affected by the incisions. The only possible telltale sign of this surgery is the altered position of the earlobes.
