Dental and Vision Insurance – 4 Reasons to Buy Them Together
Buying vision and dental insurance coverage together is getting more and more common. But why should you do it?
There are 4 reasons why it's a great idea:
1.You need them both
It may sound obvious, but it's true. More and more employers are cutting back on their benefits. While dental and vision insurance may have been offered years ago, it probably isn't anymore. In fact, cutting out dental and vision insurance benefits is a common way for companies to save money.
However, that doesn't mean that they're not important. Having vision or dental insurance coverage can save you a lot of money – so you need to have the right plans in place, whether you're employer gives them to you or not.
2.It's better for insurance companies – so it's better for you
If you buy dental and vision insurance from the same company, that's a good thing for the insurance company. After all, it means that they are going to get two premium checks from you every month!
In return for that, insurance companies are more likely to give you lower premium rates. To them, they're more than making up for any discount by getting multiple checks, so they're willing to work with you.
3.It usually means working with a bigger insurance company
That can be a good thing for you. The bigger your insurance company is, the more provider choices you will likely have. Remember, most dental and vision insurance plans come with a list of approved providers that you can go see. If you don't pick someone from the list, your insurance likely won't cover the costs.
The bigger insurance companies usually have bigger lists – meaning that you can pick and choose which dentists and eye doctors you want to go see, instead of being forced to go see the 1 or 2 that are covered in your area.
4.You can get them both as part of a discount dental plan
A discount dental plan is a little different from traditional insurance. Instead of giving you deductibles and full coverage, a discount dental plan gives you discounts on your services. So, you might get 50% off your teeth cleanings, or 30% off your x-rays. In return, you'll pay very low monthly premiums – much lower than you would pay for traditional insurance. In fact, you can usually pay less than $100 per year!
And, as an added benefit, lots of discount dental plans come with "extras" like vision coverage at little or no extra cost. That way, you can get the benefits you need without breaking your budget.
