No movies have been made about perchlorate. No regulations are in place regarding the presence of perchlorate in freshwater destined for home taps.

 However, it is known that perchlorate exposure caused delayed growth and development in children. It may cause metabolic disorders and/or thyroid conditions in adults.

Perchlorate is probably a more common contaminant than Hexavalent chromium. It is a naturally occurring combustible substance classified as a VOC. Only some of the better home water purifiers will remove perchlorate.

Water pollution control in the United Kingdom is accomplished through a variety of laws. Quality standards have been established for supplies meant for drinking and those meant for recreational purposes.

In some ways, the European Union has higher standards concerning toxins in the environment. Many communities are highly confident about the quality of the public's drinking water. In one interesting case, the local tap-water was found to be of better quality than that of a popular bottled brand.
